Why Try Natural Lawn Care?
Some people spend a lot of time working to get pristine and perfect lawns—they want to be the envy of the whole neighborhood. But too often, this involves using harsh weed-killers or noisy and dirty gas-powered lawn mowers.
Luckily, there is another way. Natural lawn care practices actually abound, and they can work wonders for your yard. Plus, when you employ these more natural methods, you won’t lose that prized clean-cut look for your grass.
Push Reel Mowers
Perhaps the biggest affront to environmentally conscious lawn care is the gas-powered lawn mower. While these types of machines do sometimes require less effort to push, they require a lot of maintenance and fuel. A push reel mower is a much greener alternative—they may take a bit more muscle on your part, but they are virtually pollutant-free.
Another great benefit of the push reel mower is that it does great things for your lawn itself. Because they function with a series of close-cutting blades, the push reel mower actually gives your lawn a cleaner, healthier trim than the gas-powered machine. It also spreads the clippings evenly as it cuts, allowing them to form a sort of organic mulch for the yard.
Natural Weed Management
For some homeowners, weeds are the bane of their existence. This results in them using chemical herbicides to keep the unwanted plants in check. This is not advisable, as lots of these chemical treatments can be harmful to pets, humans, and even the very lawn you’re trying to protect!
To remedy this, try a more natural lawn care method—things like corn gluten actually make great weed-killers, and they don’t pose a danger to any other living creatures that come in contact with it. You can also check the pH of your soil and add either acidic or basic supplements to keep the levels hospitable to your grass, but intolerable to the weeds.
